Lisa McCormick applauded the Obama administration’s rule requiring federal government contractors to provide paid sick leave to their workers and released the following statement:
The Obama administration’s new rule will provide paid sick leave to an additional 1.15 million people working as federal contractors, including an estimated 600,000 employees who currently receive no paid sick leave.
I applaud President Obama for taking an important to ensure paid sick leave for more than a million American workers, who will now be able to take time to recover from an illness or care for a loved one.
The overwhelming majority of industrialized countries require employers to provide paid sick leave when it is needed and Congress should now work to make this benefit available to the 41 million Americans workers who currently go without it.
I encourage everyone to contact their representative in Congress to tell them to support the Healthy Families Act, which would allow workers to earn at least 1 hour of paid sick time for every 30 hours worked.
